In a recent feature with N&N Magazine, I had the joy of sharing the story behind Radka Fashion—a dream that began with one colorful idea and blossomed into a collection of handcrafted leather backpacks, bags, and accessories now sold across three continents.
My journey truly started in 2005, when I moved from the Czech Republic to Nuremberg with my children. At the time, I was simply searching for a stylish and practical backpack I could wear while riding my bike and walking through the city. But all I could find were plain black and brown bags—nothing vibrant, unique, or full of character. So I decided to create my own.
After facing some challenging personal moments—including a sudden breakup and job loss—I chose to turn the page. I followed my heart, created the first prototype in January 2015, found talented seamstresses, and carefully selected my suppliers. On July 1st, 2015, my company Radka Fashion officially came to life in Nuremberg.
Bags That Travel the World with Me
Since then, my backpacks have not only become my creative expression but also my faithful travel companions. I’ve taken them across the world, from fashion expos to international conferences. I’ve even had the honor of doing an interview with Hollywood star Charlie Sheen. Today, you can find Radka Fashion bags in boutiques across Europe, North America, and Asia.
Finding Peace in Slower Days
Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve experienced the ups and downs of the changing world. During times of lockdown, when boutiques temporarily closed, online traffic to my website grew rapidly—even if sales slowed slightly. Strangely enough, that period became a beautiful gift. I finally had time to rest, sleep well, and recharge.
With events paused and schedules cleared, I embraced a slower rhythm of life: daily runs in the forest, peaceful bike rides, long walks by the lake near my home. I even canceled my TV subscription in April 2020—realizing I didn’t need it at all. In those quiet moments, I reconnected with myself and what truly matters.
New Inspiration: Painting Mandalas & Personal Growth
Something magical happened during that stillness—I discovered a new creative outlet: mandala painting. Without formal training, I simply followed my intuition. Soon after, I was offered the chance to exhibit my mandalas in Germany. Now, I’m dreaming up a new project: a “Mandala Bags” collection, where I’ll incorporate my artwork into leather design.
This time also brought deep reflection. I’m choosing to be more selective with future events and engagements. With the support of the state’s small business grant, I’ve been able to upgrade my website and invest in new machinery to support my atelier. I also took online courses, continued learning, and began collaborating with German geobiologist Ludwig Schürger on topics like dowsing, geopathy zones, and feng shui—another personal passion.
Gratitude for the Present Moment
What brings me the most joy these days? The chance to slow down. More time for family, creativity, and sport. The stress of racing from one city to another is gone, replaced with peaceful mornings and quiet discoveries. I read more, play the piano again, and appreciate life’s simple beauty.
This journey with Radka Fashion has brought me incredible challenges and amazing rewards. I’m grateful for every step. Whether I’m sewing, painting, or traveling—everything I create comes from the heart, inspired by freedom, movement, and colorful joy.
